Help with old computer

I am trying to make an old windows 2000 computer usable again, I am not sure what exactly is wrong with it the original operating system is completely gone and I was trying to install windows xp home on it, the reformatting went good and then the dos setup went good, then it restarted it got through the normal loading screen, but when it got to the windows xp setup it was a pale blue screen for a while the a black screen with the cursor in the middle, then a blue screen of death saying the problem seems to be caused by the file: vga64k and the device driver got stuck in an infinite loop STOP: 0x000000EA (0x80E0B1F8, 0x80E40D68, 0x80E40E40, 0x00000001) then does a physical mem dump. I wouldn't think its ram because it happens at the same time every time. Someone suggested reinstalling or deleting the video driver in safe mode but when i go to safe mode it says setup can't be done in safemode and restarts. Any help would be appreciated. by the way its 190mb ram and hardrive is about 10gb its an old dell optiplex GX110. i have a windows xp professional disk and a windows 2000 also if you suggest one of those to be better.

Well, there is definitely something about the video card that is bothering Windows.

I'd suggest finding a second video card and see if you can load the OS with the different card.

I tried xp pro and same thing so its definitely bad video card and I originally was going to use 2000 but xp was there and even if I do get this thing running it won't be doing much. I might be able to find another video card somewhere.

fixed it, but not what you would think

I fixed it by, not a new video card, not new drivers, but a bios setting. It looked like someone was playing around and didn't know what they were doing and changed some settings. I put them back and it works great!! Thanks for trying to help.

I do have another question, none of the sound works in windows. I did uninstall the drivers and found what appears to be the right one but it still doesn't work. the sound settings say there are no audio devices, but if you find the audio controller in device manager it says everything is working properly and in the audio controllers properties it shows it is an audio device and mic and everything else, why are they so contradicting? when there is an error or a window pops up that would usually make a sound the internal speaker beeps and the internal beep comes over the speakers plugged in, the sound card is integrated into the motherboard by the way

windows xp pro service pack 3 (updated)

intel(r) 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller

sounds and audio devices in control panel says no audio device

audio controller properties under device manager lists intel(r) 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller under audio devices, midi devices and instruments, mixer devices, and line input devices

done

Well if anyone was wondering i did fix it by getting the drivers from another computer with the same audio controller. but you can't find these files to download ANYWHERE, and there are multiple files which makes it that much worse...
