Help with operating system

Hi Guys!
I did a repair with my xp disc and when I rebooted the puter all my programs and stuff had disappeared. When I boot in safe mode they are all there in the programs menu. Am I correct in assuming that this is happening because there are 2 operating systems on my puter? I have gone to control panel/system/Advanced/ system startup and recovery and there is only one operating system listed:confused:
Firstly why does all my programs appear to be available in safe mode?
Secondly how can I recover them so they are available when I boot the puter normally?

There gotta be a clever chap somewhere who can help me!
Regards
Tich

Firstly if you say "puter" one more time I'm going to reach through the internet and bitch slap you.

Secondly: You only have one OS on your computer. The system repair replaces your old OS, file by file, but leaves everything else (usually) intact. It sounds like you created a new user and because all the installers where run before the new account was created. All the start menu is, is a creative way of displaying the C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu\ folder. The admin account is constant through pre repair and post repair so it is not affected.

What you can do, is boot into safe mode, log into administrator. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu. Hit ctrl a and then ctrl c

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Start Menu and hit ctrl v

restart in normal mode and log into your normal account. Everything should be in the start menu now.

Sorry about the "puter" bit. Slap gratefully accepted.

Going to try what you suggested Bragr. Fingers crossed.

Nope ! Didn`t work. What I meant was that all the programs have gone from the "All Programs" menu. Come on Bragr. You can do better than that. Clever bloke like you.:D
