help with printer and file sharing

Hi, am totally stuck, any help would be great.
I have a desktop computer attached to a modem router (with wireless and wired options) and a laptop that I connect to the internet with, wired or wireless, depending on where I am in the house. The internet works fine but I cannot share the printer attached to the desktop nor any files on the desktop, from my laptop. I have tried running the network setup wizard which runs ok on laptop but when I try running on desktop I get the following message: "

Cannot complete network setup wizard. Other computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer. In addition to its internet connection this computer must have a connection to your network"

Am very confused and have only connected two computers directly before using a crossover cable, so dont really understand this setup.

Thanks for reading!

BAsically, you need to make sure both computers have the same workgroup name, but different computer names. Then retry the network setup wizard on both computers and make sure you have all the internet settings correct as far as how it connects to the internet.

Thanks for your reply. Workgroup name is the same and computers have own name. Problem seems to be that main pc is not connected to a network but none of the wizards to create a network work!
