Help with printer gives blank or very light pages

I have always had issues with printers they always seem to have the same thing happen to me. I had it unhooked for a while and got it reinstalled. When I print the paper barely shows any black but no color and the black is very light. I took out the print cartridges and moistened the bottom and kinda wiped the ink off however, it is still doing the same thing. It is a Lexmark x5150 and I'd hate to buy another new printer. Please help, thanks.
 
Thanks, think I've had the same problem with previous printers and even tried new cartridges which didn't work. I'll try with this printer.
 
You might have to clean off the print head, which you might have to take it in to get that done.
