help with processors for laptop please

hi guys i'm going to be buying an alienware laptop for college this coming summer. i don't consider myself a serious gamer but playing games like borderlands and call of duty would be something i'd be doing. i'm not computer illiterate, i just know the basics. now i have a budget of around $1600 and i needed help picking out a processor. choices are dual core and i5. how does the duel core compare to the i5?

the i5 and i7 are the new processors from intel. they are very good. you also should see the video thats in the laptop. thats not a good idea to get a gamming laptop for school, you wont do your homework hehehehe.
