Help with RAM

I'm confused about RAM, say i bought one 1GB DDR2 800, would that be the same as running two 512MB DDR2 400's?

if thats right would that mean running two DDR2 800's would make 1600mhz, and if you had a motherboard that could only go to 1333, then youd have to overclock the FSB to 1600?

and if i bought a celeron dual core 2.0GHZ CPU, would i need to match the FSB speed with the RAM speed? ( the FSB is 800, and its quad pumped? so 200Mhz, i would need one or more DDR2 800? to make it to 200mhz) and what happens if i go to lets say a DDR2 1033? it would be 258.25mhz so 58.25mhz over the CPUs FSB. would that harm anything or effect performance? :confused:

no no. your right about 2 512mb ddr2 400 sticks being = to "1 GB" but NOT 1066 mhz. so the mobo is compatible. but you should get 2 gb of ddr2 800. thats the best. G. skill is a good brand
 
lemme clear it up.
FSB and RAM speeds have no correlation.
memory SIZE (as in, MB, GB) adds up with new sticks, speed doesn't. infact speed goes to the lowest speed of all the sticks. if you have 512mb of DDR2-800, and 512mb of DDR2-667, then both sticks will work at DDR2-667.
Your Celeron won't need over DDR2-800, and 1gb will work fine for Windows XP and Windows 7. Vista likes 2gb, but will still run fine with 1gb.
 
Sorry for leaping in but didn't want to start a new thread as I have a problem with ram also.

I'm using the latest version of xp amd my computer is only a few months old.

My computer has turned itself off several times mainly if I am using bitcomet overnight or I ask my computer to handle more than one thing at a time.

I have read something about too many simultaneous connection being seen as malicious by some windows update but I'm not always using p2p when it happens.

Someone suggested I could have a problem with my Ram (have 2 sticks approx 3.25GB in total).

First I used memtest from hcidesign running 2 copies of it at the same time. Both found problems. example " memory error detected! pair 31598201 does not store values accurately. I had 3 of these with only 3.8% checked.

Wondering if this was reliable I then found another Ram Test called Roadkil Ram Test Version 1 2008. I ran it and no errors were found.

Would appreciate any advice. Thank you
