Help with ram

I have three ddr4 same frequency ram sticks, two 4gb and one 8gb. Is it better to have two sticks of 4gb or one stick of 8gb and one stick of 4gb?
 
How'd you end up with that mix?

I'd load 2x4gb onto one channel and 1x8gb onto the other, consult your mobo manual for channel assignments.

I only have two slots for ram, because it's for a laptop, but thanks for your reply.

Hey you forgot to elaborate on the situation.

Depends if you want 8gb of consistent performance or 12gb of interleaved performance. Personally 8GB isn't enough in 2024.

Buying another 8GB stick probably isn't worth the bump to 16G, I'd be looking at 32G kits personally if the 12G setup isn't working how you'd like.
