Ok im new at this, ive built computers along time ago when i was young and dont remember anything.

The motherboard im looking at buying only can have 2gb. Now my question is this. You cant get exactly 2gb. There are 256,512,and 1024 gb that i know of. Now what will happen if I put TWO 1024 gb in the motherboard? Will that be ok? I would rather have a mother board that can have 4gb but you know im not made of money. I found a Intel mother board with a intel celeron 3.20 ghz processor for $159. But it only can have 2 gb..

They actually do make 2GB sticks, but they are several hundred dollars and way overpriced. If it supports 2GB then you can use 2x 1GB sticks.

ya, 1GB=1024MB. As long as there are 2 slots and it supports 2GB, then you can get 2x 1024MB sticks. Just keep in mind that your motherboard may limit the speed to DDR333 if you use 2 sticks.

Number of Slots
2

Number of Pins
184-Pin

Maximum Memory Supported
2GB

Memory Supported
DDR333 (PC2700)
DDR400 (PC3200)

how do i tell if it limits it to ddr333?

It may say in your motherboard manual, its not really anything to worry about. You can buy DDR400 memory and if it does limit it to DDR333, it will only run at that. It wont need a different kind of RAM.

thanks.. im acually building this for my father-in-law for next christmas. Since it will take that long to get the money lol.. here it is: i acually found another motherboard than that one, just not sure which one to go with.. that one is 3.20 ghz and this new one is more expensive and its 3.06 ghz. both intel celeron.. Tell me what you think:

ATX mid-tower case with fan controller
Asus socket 775 with intel celeron D 346 (3.06ghz)
Corsair TWINX 1024 MB 667Mhz Dual channel DDR2 memory (2x512MB)
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300gb/7200rpm/16MB buffer/serial ata-150
Geil dual channel 1024 MB 667Mhz memory (2x512Mb)
Sony 16x8x16x DVD+RW / 16x6x16x DVD-RW / 8x DVD±R DL / White / Internal DVD Writer (4 lbs)

or Im thinking of going with the Intel socket 775 with intel celeron D 3.20 ghz processor. this motherboard includes no memory with it and only can take 2 ghz. the other is 4ghz.

The intel is $159
The asus is $309

which one would be faster/ morei reliable? thanks
