i have a GIGABYTE motherboard,
Number of Pins: 240-Pin
Maximum Memory Supported: 4GB - 32bit
Memory Supported: 800MHz DDR2

there are 2 slots for the memory right now i have one slot filled with 1 GB DDR2 533Mhz, would i be able to buy a 1GB DDR2 800Mhz, will it work even if i have 2 sticks with different speeds

Generally for a faster dimm to run it would be seen running one speed slower like 667mhz there. Being two speeds faster may be a problem even with the exact same type of memory. A 667mhz would probably backclock to 533 easier there. The best move would be to run the single 800mhz dimm until you were able to buy a second 800 later.

I have never saw a DDR2 800 stick of ram that would not run at 533 or even 400 for that matter. And yes I would run both sticks till I got another DDR2 800

The same make of memory with the same basic timings may not see problems while mixing makes can throw you off at times. This is why going with the single 800 dimm may become necessary if problems come up. This is something you will find out when trying both together. First make sure the faster memory is installed on the first or A channel. Just make sure both dimms are the same type and you don't mix performance memory with existing value ram.
