hi,

I had problems with my hp desk top so I decided to do a recovery this is stored on a partion on the hd the problem is when it gets to about 24% it freezes and i have to turn it off from the mains, it has formatted the hd so there seems to be no OS anymore, the original problem was it shuting down and restarting, could I get a copy of XP and boot from the dvd drive and reinstall the OS from this using the original key that come with the machine?

Thanks

Gino

You would need a new copy of XP and it already comes with a cdkey. If it freezes up on you, its most likely a hardware issue. Did you sit there and let it go for a couple hours or just a few minutes? Did you do a destructive restore or just do a repair install?

Well if you don't have a disk to go about with, then you would indeed need a new disk, And the install process does take a while to complete, it takes about 40-90 minutes to install XP, depending on computer, so if you spent less than that it was probably doing something.
But you might loose the data.
