Help with restoring Laptop

Hello forum, I need some help with restoring my laptop, heres some background:

Due to a "specified domain error" every time I try to login to my laptop, I'm having to restore my computer (which is the only fix to this problem). I CANNOT access Windows at ALL.

Now for the restoration process, I have a few questions and one BIG question.

1. Can I restore my computer to factory settings with an original Windows XP SP2 Installation Disk? What is the difference between this Windows XP Installation Disk and a "Recovery Disk"?

2. I tried using my Windows XP SP2 Installation Disk at boot-up, but it does NOT boot up! I changed my BIOS Boot settings to this:

Boot Priority Order:
1. Internal Optical Drive
2. Floppy Disk Drive (*)
3. Internal Hard Disk Drive
4. Network

And it does not boot up.

Please help me everyone, I want to be using my Laptop asap for a project next week. Thanks!

Hey :D

You can restore your computer to factory settings with original installation disk.
Recovery disk can also be something you burned yourself after installing something.

For the second second question, right answer is number 1. If you want to boot it up from cd, you should choose Internal Optical Drive.

If it is not booting to the CD, it could be a corrupt boot loader on the CD itself. Try a different bootable CD and see what happens.
In most cases, the recovery disk will do the same thing as a regular installation disk.

the difference between the recovery disc and an standard xp disc is the recovery disc is a version of windows specific to your laptop.its still xp but with all the drivers and oem software etc.
if u install a standard version of xp you;ll need to go to the manufacturers website and get the various drivers for your system.
windows will probably get most of the generic ones but your FN keys probably wont work etc.
the advantage of this is u wont get all the useless programs and bloatware than laptop manufacturers preinstall.
ive had to recover my vaio twice in 3 yrs but you'll be surprised at how fast it'll be running again
