Help with SLI

i have a BFG geforce 7600 gt oc right now, and im thinking of upgrading soon. It has SLI capabilities, but my comp right now only has one PCI-E slot, which is being used by the graphics card now. I wanted to link two of the same cards. Is there a way to add another pci-e slot, and is it better having two of those graphic cards or getting a new card altogether?

You cant add another PCIe slot, So another card is the only way unless you get a SLI board
And by the time you bought an sli motherboard you looking at at least $100 for a decent one plus the $150 for the 7600gt, thats $250 sell your old 7600gt and you will have more then enough money for a 7900gt or 7950gt.

Thats more or less what I said, but hows he going to have more than enough money selling a used 7600gt to buy a 7900gt?

Ha Ha, It really doesnt matter, hes not going to get much for a used 7600 anyway so buying another 7600 and a sli board will run about the same as a good 7900 or 7950, plus if he really wants SLI hes going to have to get a board. the better way is all in the eye of the beholder. Its as simple as to get SLI he has to get a SLI board. I dont really care what he does!

Gosh yes you would have no problem getting abotut $100 for a slightly used 7600gt, and so thats like $350 I got my 7900gt for $250. Anyway no it doesn't matter, but its pointless to go sli anyway you lose 10% performance about going sli, in fact in quad sli its only about 300% performance of one card.

You might need to reword that, so you think my 2 7600gt lose 10% performance over 1 7600GT?, then you say you will (only get 300%) in guad sli over 1 card?

True true, let me rephrase that you would think in sli that you would get twice the performance but you only get like a 90% so you get about 190% of the original performance and most of this is only in the higher resolutions while quad sli you would figure 400% the boost or at least somewhere close but its only like 300% the performance. SLI really is a pretty ineffective way to go right now.

Well I guess that depends on what sli your doing...my rig with two 7600gs runs pretty well and the two cards only cost $100 after rebates. big jump from what i had, but then again I built a new computer and not upgrading just the mobo and buying another gpu. ya so in this case i would buy a 7900 or something similar...better performance per cost i would think.

but you can get decent performance out of sli that makes the money worth it if you find a good deal, if not then seriously go for one better gpu. my 3dmark06 with one gpu is 2700 adn about 5000 with sli so ya its about the percents you said (altho in this case my cpu is getting a decent score so the graphics performance in this test is atleast doubled) but ya in agreement with those before me sli isnt really worth it (unless you find some great deal for the price). i was stuck on a strict budget so the extra 150 bucks i saved from not getting the 7900 allowed me to purchase and build the comp. ya so i guess it all comes down to price/performance...and what you need and want

but imo get a better graphics card for now...then if you want to upgrade your mobo later you have options and arent stuck with two 7600's that you dont know what to do with because your craving more performance

just my 2 cents

Well thats the thing, if you got both for $200 then thats cheaper then a 7900gt however I have seen benchmarks that two 7600GS hardly can outperform a single gt, but by the looks of your scores thats not your case, at least in 3dmark. Its just their is no point in upgrading your motherboad and adding a card to go sli when you can upgrade to a good single card for cheaper.

thanx for the comments guys. i think what i have now is ok for now. im not gonna upgrade anytime soon. im broke and i just got my new computer:D
