Help with speed issues ASUS P7H55D

I recently purchased the following desktop:

ASUS P7H55D - M PRO / Socket 1156
INTEL CORE i3-530 / 2.93 Ghz
RAM 4GB PC1333 (2*2)
HDD 1TB WD SATA
......

I've got Win XP Pro running with SP3

The issue is simple, when I click start of want to open a folder or check an email, then the PC takes 3-5 seconds to respond. It appears to be running really slow.

I've installed the ASUS software to tweak performance but honestly have no clue what should be what. Anyone know whats going on?
 
The hard drive isn't the caviar black series is it? There has been issues with that series of drives, including one that I bought and had to rma back to newegg.

Well, all drives can have issues, the black series seems to have less issues than WD drives of past(caviar SE for example).

I'd suggest running a test with HD Tune to see what sort of throughput the drive is getting, as well as random access times. If the results show relatively low throughput, may be a faulty drive.

Not sure what you mean with the caviar black series...

How can I run such a test?
 
What is the exact series of hard drive you have from western digital? Can you give us a link to the drive you have?
