Help with viruses/trojans/adware/spyware

thank you, gimmie a day or two to comply yet again, once again I want to express my gratitude, not only for healing the computer, but the knowlege I am gaining also.
 
Alright, I finally got around to doing all that, but I lost my disk that had all the programs and logs on it I was using back and forth between computers. I ran into an issue unfortunately. I think I might have deleted something I shouldn't have using HJT. The start menu is bugged, and there is no address bar for Internet Explorer. I'll click start, but there is no Help and Support, Search, or Run... commands in the bottom right corner and when I try to display all programs, nothing comes up.

There is also no address bar for IE. I checked the view tab and played with them all, the only thing remotely close to the address bar is the search bar :-/
 
Have you got Hijackthis installed on this computer? If you have, open it and open "View list of backups". If you've got backups there, re-install everything. If you can't do this, can you get to system restore to go back to an earlier date?
 
Cheers, I'm on my father's computer posting this. Seems as if everything is clean and sparkling. I just had to use the repair windows thing. Sure enough everything started working again, and I'm seeing no traces of adware / spyware.
