Help with Windows 7 inst

I am trying to install windows 7 on a new build(my first). I get to the part where it asks me what drive i want to install windows to, but it does not show any drives. I can see the HDD in the bios and when Windows looks for drives to get drivers of off. when i click on the HDD it tells me it needs to be formated but then says it can't. It tells me to check the connections as well. I am at a loss of what to do, any one have an idea?

Mobo: Gigabyte ma790fxt-ud5p
CPU:AMD Phenom II x2 Black addition
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 500gb
GPU: XFX HD 4870

It doesn't show a drive because you probably already have Windows on it, with
no partitions, so it won't allow you to install over it.

However, if you click the "Advanced Options" tab, you should see your drive
and be able to format it and install Windows 7.

I remember having an issue similar to this with a Foxconn board.

There were dedicated SATA inputs for RAID configs, and
if I tried to use them, they would not work.

Have you tried using any or all of the other SATA inputs?

I have tried using sata-0 and sata-1 should i just try them all?
also it has 4 sata sockets dedicated for Raid, but i haven't tried any of them should I
