Help with Windows/Linux "thin-client"/terminals

I am interested in turning one computer into a mainframe kinda thing, and having several thin-clients or terminals running off of it.

I don't mean remote desktop protocol or logging into another computer with another computer. I mean one computer, with 3 or for serial communications or USB or whatever cables running to monitors and mice. And those terminals would either login, or just have their own desktops, and would use the processing power of the main computer.

Does anyone know how to do that economically, without buying "thin-client" computers?

I was thinking 3 or 4 video cards in the computer could support that, but then I have no idea how you would send different signals to each and have them each running separate logins and such.

Any help is much appreciated.
