Help!!

So I like game and I do play game.

I'm playing AION these days, and everytime I go to place with dense population or has bunch of buildings such as big city, I tend to have lag, goes away as some time passes, and starts to lag again. I looked at the FPS rate it was mostly 60~90 execept when it lags, goes down to 20~30 for 1~2 sec and come back. When I level up or doing grind, it runs pretty well, smoothly. I'm playing this game at mid setting.

I tried to fix and resolve lag problem but really did not help.
Even hooked up desktop graphic card-ATI HD 5770- to my laptop using VIDock, FPS went up, but still it lagged in the same way.

So I turned on task manager and looked at the performance monitor, I noticed CPU usage spiked up when it laggs when memory usage did not exceed 3.0G mark, which is only 3/4 of full memory.

Right now i'm assuming my lagging comes from CPU over loads, how do u guys think and any suggestion?

I was looking at Intel Core2 Extreme X9100, or Core2 Duo P9800. Will it fix the problem? I really don't wanna spend $1400 for another laptop-course this case i would sell my old one tho-.

This is my spec for my computer

NP2098/Sager-Laptop
Game : AION
P8800 Core2 Duo 2.66Ghz 3Mb Cache
Radeon Mobility ATI HD4650 - 512 DDR3 RAM
DDR3 RAM 1066Mhz
HDD SATA 250 - 7200RPM
Win 7.
Platform - PM45
* Here I'm assuming that I can upgrade my CPU up to X9100-which i think there will be no upgrade after this when i7 proccess can be upgrade further then what they currently have. So, either way it is dilemma to buy new laptop with next generation or buy best in current generation which is cheaper.
Please, i need advise!!

THANK YOU!!!

You could upgrade your cpu which most likely will solve the problem. get the extreme x9100 for a great performance boost. upping to the p9800 will get results but not as much as you probably want. you might want to up ur ram as well depending on how much you have. get the maximum amount of ram ur laptop holds which is probably 4-6 gigs.

Hi luneatic,

P8800 Core2 Duo 2.66Ghz 3Mb Cache
Radeon Mobility ATI HD4650 - 512 DDR3 RAM
DDR3 RAM 1066Mhz

As a rule of thumb, I always try to match the amount of RAM I have w/ the processor speed. Before you go upgrading your processor, I would definitely put at least another GB RAM in there. Since it's a DuoCore, you might even try going up to 4GB (looks like your lappy is upgradeable to 8GB). I'm not sure if a DuoCore would be able to utilize double the amount of RAM as it's processing power, but I'm certain someone else on this site will be able to tell us... ;)

Hope that helps. Helluva lot cheaper than buying another processor. :D

Ram

Sorry bout confusion. I have 4GB Ram.

Today I kind a tried overclocking a little which worked fairely well but still I dont wanna take the risk so if i have to upgrade, I prolly change my CPU only if it will bring the good result.

Thank you for help guys!!!

let me know if u guys have any other suggestion.

There's nothing wrong with overclocking as long as your temps are OK. How much did you overclock? Going to 3.0ghz with no voltage changes might get you the results you want and only be like 5 degree's warmer which is no big deal.

agreed. try oc'ing and then tell us the results. 4gb of ram is plenty and if you still are having problems running AION then a cpu upgrade would be worth it.

I kind a upgraded my cpu and now it is much better then before. It was right that my cpu was lacking it's capability. I tested with new graphic card which didn't help at all. It was definitely CPU.
