Help!

A few days ago my Computer started locking up and shutting down at random, sometimes I was able to run my computer for a full day and then it happened, and other times it happened after only a few minutes, so I thought it might be an overheating processor so I took my computer outside and blasted the dust out with an air compressor because the heat-sinks where rely clogged up with dust, but that didn't help, so then I tried reinstalling the OS, but it shut down expectantly in the middle of the installation, so I know it's not software, it could be my Power Supply, but that doesn't explain the sudden locking up 5min before my Computer shuts down, so I think it is my motherboard that has finally gone on me(I have had a strange problem with it for the last year or so, where my computer locks up and runs slow until I reset the Bios, and yes, I have tried updating my bios and resetting it), so it's looks like it is my Motherboard, so it looks like I will be getting a new and Mobo/CPU, I have decided to go with an AMD CPU because that's what people suggest, so I will be getting the AMD Phenom II X2 550, and as for a Motherboard, this is the one that I have also seen recommended a lot ASUS M4A89GTD Pro, and it has the capability to unlock the AMD Phenom II to potentially Quad Core, and it's under $200, do you think they would be a good combo, I know they work well together because they are what Asus used to test the core unlocking capability on the Motherboard, the other couple questions I have are.
Do you think the extra $15 for the USB3 is worth it, because I can get the same Motherboard in a USB3 version?
And should I spend the extra and get the AMD 555 instead of the 550, it's an extra .1ghz for an extra $15, I didn't think it was worth it?
And is a 500W Power Supply Enough to run all of that, I have the BFG 9800 GT eco version, so it doesn't use up much power.

If your computer runs at all download SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

and run it, it will tell you what is running the hottest.

I would, but I can't even get the OS installed, so I can't do that, it could be something overheating, but I can't rely check, and I haven't had any problems before as far as over heating goes, and I render videos out no problem and this will happen when I am surfing the web, it just doesn't make sense, and when my Computer locks up, I can still move my mouse around, I checked the processor and the fan was still spinning nice and fast (that's what my finger told me when I stupidly stuck my finger into the fan).

It's ok tho, I didn't rely like my Motherboard anyways, it's a 5 year old model so it was a little slow, and everything else in my computer is new, and I am looking forward to the quad core because I do a lot of video editing and rendering.

Are you going to get an SSD as the system/boot drive too? One of those will really unleash the Titan (excuse me, AOM fan) and make everything REALLY fly.
 
Along the lines of what xXbrick84Xx is suggesting, I'd leave the case open, boot up, and see which fan isn't working or is working intermittently. Although it sounds like a fan problem, that BIOS thing is kinda weird.

The more I think about it the more it sounds like an overheating problem, and it has been hotter here the last few days as well, so I guess the solution would be to get a better cooling system, but I don't want to put any more money into the current Motherboard/CPU I have, so upgrading is what makes the most sense, and the motherboard problem with the bios is because when I was new to computers I vacuumed it out because it was dusty, and that's when the problem with the bios started.
