Help!!

Okay so today was my birthday and my parents gave me a q8400 quad core processor to upgrade my pentium D 925. The installation of the chip was fine but after I booted it wouldn't post so I upgraded the bios wich fixed the problem but now I have a problem booting into an operating system. So I first have to choose the hard-drive from the boot menu then after that it either gets a blue screen of death or just reboots. I have also tried reinstalling windows but it came up with an error 'The instruction 0x78ea61bb the reqired data was not places in memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc0000001.' I'm wondering if you could help me resolve this problem :)

When you updated the bios it put the settings back to default. Were you running in ahci/raid mode before? Most likely its a bios setting. What motherboard do you have?
 
Well I had a n650sli-ds4l but I taken the computer to a local repair shop were they said the q8400 wasn't compatible with the board so I purchased a new board a BIOSTAR TP45 HP which I am also having problems with as when I restart it, it turns itself off then it turns on and there is no display and continues this for around 5 minuets then boots but hangs somewhere along the line :(

When you changed motherboard you have to reinstall windows as there is different hardware on the new one.

Edit, removed my comment about the dell oem license. I must have been seeing things in your posts. I've been sick the last few days.

The extra standoffs were already on the base of the case and I reistalled windows. I also updated the bios as there was an over clock error ( even though I haven't tried overclocking ) now my computer constanly crashes making me have to reboot. also I have noticed the mouse and the keyboard both turn off when it crashes. Not sure if that helps ?

Is it possible you updated the motherboard to the wrong BIOS? The motherboard may also be defective. If it is defective it should be covered under warranty by the manufacturer.
 
it was the right bios but thanks for trying :). I removed a stick of ram to see if it was the problem and it booted fine but If I run Prime95 it crashes after 5 minuts. >.<
 
You might want to try testing the RAM by running the program "Memtest86+" in a different motherboard. I think it strange that the memory was working fine until you switched motherboards. Have you overclocked anything or are you running this system at normal clock speeds?

I'm running stock clock speeds.
 
I am wondering if you used any thermal paste when you replaced the heatsink? If you did use thermal paste, if so how much did you use? It is possible your processor is overheating and shutting off your system.
 
yeah I used the silicone based stuff :) I put a cross in the middle ;) anyway I've ordered a new mother board a 'GA-EG41MF-US2H' seems alright just dont like the fact it's only got one pci-e x16. Well I'll keep you informed :3

Have you run a program like speedfan or Hardware monitor? It is always very wise to check temps. The temps should be in the BIOS as well. Could be your cooling is just be having trouble keeping up. What are your temps?
Also, I know that you installed a new CPU, but the most common failing device on a system is the hard drive. Maybe try a different one if you can? I had similar problems and the hard drive was the issue.
Also, is there enough free space on you hard drive? No viruses for sure? These things can often be overlooked. My advice is to check the not-so technical things as well.
 
well I've decided not to go for that board :L And my temps for my cpu were always under 40c under load and it was a freash install of windows so no viruses also as far as I am aware my hardrive is fine I will check just incase :)
