Help!

Hey everyone I have a problem I need to get solved. So I found my moms old laptop and it has some virus or something that makes it reboot repeatedly. So I bought a 2.5 inch laptop hard drive adapter and it came in the mail today. I put it on the hdd an plugged it into the second connecter on the ribbon for my DVD drive (not Sata). I turned on the computer and it kept freezing once the bios booting was about to finish. I tried to open the setup and boot menus but that didn't work either. I think I know what the problem may be but Idk how to fix it. I am aware I am supposed to set te jumpers to slave mode but the jumpers for the drive are not a switch they are extra pins I'm supposed to cover to act as slave! My adapter only has enough pin holes for the regular mode! What do I do?

When does the system reboot? I highly doubt the infections are making the system reboot. If its rebooting upon startup before it actually gets into windows then most likely you have errors on the hard drive.

Yea thats what was happening. Do you know how to fix it?

Do you know what brand hard drive it is? You would have to download the drive makers disk diagnostic utility and run it on the drive to fix the errors. Let me know the brand of the drive.

I'm confused as to whether the HDD you are connecting is the original drive or another one. Why are you making the DVD drive the master and the HDD the slave? Did you disconnect the DVD drive and now have 2 HDDs?

ok guys i figured this out and i got my pc to boot with both drives connected. Windows fixed the drive so it works but now i have another problem. I found the pictures my mom wanted and it allows me to move them around fro example to a usb drive or a folder one at a time. However since there are about 1000 pictures i tried to copy them to the folder all at once and then it says error file can not be read from the source or something like that? How do i fix this without having to copy every picture one by one?

Normally you get an error saying which file is the problem. Try transferring all but that one (select the lot then Ctrl + click on bad file to deselect).

Otherwise, transfer them say 100 at a time. If you have the problem, leave that block of 100 and finish transferring the rest. Then transfer the last block 10 at a time etc until you only have the bad file left.

Can you explain how the original problem was solved so that we can benefit from your experience?

Hey thanks for the reply but you didnt read my comment right i guess. No matter what if i copy more then 1 file at a time it gives an error message for all the files. For example i can move file x and y one at a time easily, but as soon as i try to move them both at once i get an error. And the problem i had before was that i forgot to plug in one of the power cable thats why it kept freezing. I think i may post a tutorial when im done.

One simple remedy is to zip the files so you are only copying one file. Is the USB drive properly formatted?
