i have a dell optiplex 280 running xp pro i was late for work last night so i didnt shut my computer down the right way i just held in the power button and now all it will do is go to a screen that says
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
last know goo configuration
start windows normally
i have tried them all and all it does is go back to the same screen
help help

What brand of hard drive do you have? Your drive most likely has errors on it now. You will need to use the hard drive manufacturer's disk diagnostic program to scan the drive for errors and allow it to fix them.

If you have any kind of Linux boot disc you can put that in and go into BIOS and change the setting so it boots from disc. If it boots into that disc ok then you know it's a problem with the hard drive. Like johnb said, run the diagnostic on it and Windows might be able to fix whatever errors are occurring.
