Help!!!

Hello,

I am currently trying to reformat a dell notebook nickelodeon edition. What happened was there was a virus on the hard drive that crashed the hard drive. I do not know the details of this virus, or when it crashed because the netbook is a friend of mines. Anyways, I created a bootable USB flash drive using WinToFlash and I went into the setup like I normally would for windows XP Home Edition. I deleted the partition so I could do a fresh install on an empty partition. After it restarted when i deleted the partition and it went through the first two format bars, it says Missing Operating system. I have no idea how to get back into the setup because after it loads the screen before it would allow me to select option number 2 for setup it says Missing Operating System. I have NO idea what I did wrong. -sighs- Any help would be appreciated!
 
Windows XP Home Edition. Would the install have anything to do with the fact that the disc says it's for a Gateway Computer only when I've been trying to install onto a Dell?
 
Well, another one bites the dust. I put in another hard drive to see if the default hard drive was the problem. Nope. Now the other hard drive is saying Missing Operating System. :(
 
You would have to use an unbranded XP cd in order to do that. So a Gateway install cd won't work on a Dell and vice versa. The reason being is that the software on the cd's is designed to look at the system board to see if its a dell or gateway model and if it doesn't detect a dell board when using dell cd then it won't install. You are better off getting a new one as XP is not supported anymore and you'll only run into problems soon anyway. Browsers and antivirus companies are beginning to not support XP any more either.
 
Getting a new windows disk, such as Vista? I'm not to sure if it'll support vista. I mean, it's a Dell notebook with only 1gb of ram. Another question I have is that since i have a Gateway notebook, would the install disc work with that? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I"m just wondering if i should use it for the mini Gateway laptop. It needs to be reformatted as well.
 
Those netbooks have low system specs for a reason, cheapness. It's time to put it to rest and get something newer. XP didn't even run good on 1gb of ram.

It all depends on what models that recovery disk was made for.
 
Ah. Okay. Well, the Dell isn't mine and neither is the Gateway. So I was going to fix them and all that jazz.

If you're still stuck per the original post I'd probably abort mission at that point based on the quoted information.. ;)
