OK this is really annoying me, whenever i log on to my computer at random intervals my browser will open up to a random web page advertisement, this keeps happening and ive tried numerous programs (McAfee antispyware microsoft antispyware Registry Mechanic avast!) and still the problem persists. There is a foler on my harddrive called "surfsidekick" among others and im sure these are to blame but i just cant get rid of them... any ideas?

http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=36298

SurfSideKick is an adware application that displays pop-up advertisements while user is browsing the web. SurfSideKick also acts as a Hijacker that installs as a URLSearchHook and also runs a process at startup (ssk.exe).

Well....by the look of some of the search results for this particular adaware, it should be detected by most anti-spyware.
Try updating your anti-spyware list.

But only act after your Hikack this log is reviewed.

i didnt know about hijackthis but i managed to delete all suspicious files as it was blaringly obvious :D thanks for your help moderators and others :D

i delete it then scan again and
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe will not go away its just there every time i run it

well your right on one thing...
there is a number of glaring things to be fixed!
but then you said you deleted a few of them...
why dont you post a fresh log for consideration

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the bottomof the log (should be a list of files) and paste it here.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

heres the l2mfix log

are you sure you ran updated virus and anti-spyware definitions??

http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32rbotmb.html
http://castlecops.com/tk28830-Toolbar888.html
http://process.networktechs.com/optimize.exe.php
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32chodeg.html
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/netmon.exe-3645.html

These are some of the things I found in your Hijack this log,
now DO NOT ACT UPON THEM UNTIL REVIEWED BY BUZZ,
the links are meant for informational purposes only.

I would suggest you try the trial version of Kaspersky AV; run it in safe mode
while disabling explorer.exe.
It should help remove some of the malwares.

You got a lot of crap on here, it'll take a few steps to clean it all up.

Uninstall Internet Optimizer.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so! Do Not run in safe mode!!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

After reboot, download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  5. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  6. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. Select "Remove" and "Perform action on all Infections" and "Create encrypted backup".
  7. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Then restart the computer, and post a new Hijackthis log.

l2mfix should only take a minute. Let's do it another way.

Download and update Ewido.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.

Then boot into safemode (tap f8 on startup).

Once in safemode, do a full scan with Ewido.

Then run Spysweeper.

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

Exit SpySweeper and boot back to normal mode, and post a new Hijackthis log.
