HERCULES 9800 PRO OVERHEAT? help?

My Hercules 9800 pro is overheating, the heatsink under the fan is really hot! is that normal? and there are strange blue blocks, and lines when i play my games! I don't know what to do, i took out my card and put my old one in and its fine! should i get a new fan? because when i spin the fan it doesn;t run freely, is that normal> anywayz any advice would be greatly appriciated!!!!!!!! plz help! :confused:

I am no expert at graphic card problems but I think the blue blocks and lines you see are called artefacts and are usually a result of either overclocking too far or due to overheating which effects stability and essentially even the lifetime of a card. I would think that the fan is failing on you. It still spins but not enough to cool down your card. However, it does not need to spin freely but there should be no resistance when you turn it around.

Thanks for the info, i'm probably going to get the fan checked out, and get better cooling for the card, hopefully this works!
 
Also do you think the card could be permanently damaged due to the heat, cause when i turn it on it seems ok, but then it gets really hot and the artifacts start showing up!

Yes that's bad, downclock it untill you get a new heatsink on it.

I was thinking imposible.

But not to mention, the new one you put on it, usually provides even more cooling then the original was intended to do.

Its possible but damn near boarderline impossible since you'd have to seriously track down fans and crap. There's not much point too since, as we've all said, aftermarket coolers are generally superior.
 
Dead!

I got a new cooler and still its messed! i think the card is just dead, and its time to buy a new one, but its a shame cause i don't got the $ to buy a new one! If anybody can tell me what else might be wrong with the card, or is it just dead! thx.
 
Thats wierd.. are you sure you installed it good? Can you maybe get an RMA or something for it? Did you get the correct version for you card?
