Here is my first time build, let me know if anyone see's any possible conflicts. Thanks

-ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI
-64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz HT 2 x 1MB L2 Cache
-CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model Twinx2048-3200c2pt
-Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 550W Power Supply
-Sata HDD
-eVGA Geforce 6800GS 256-P2-N386-AX Video Card

Did I forget anything major?

1. a Case?

2. how big of a hdd?

3. i would downgrade to an X2 4200+ or a 3800+ then upgrade ur gpu to a 7800gt or higher.

case and hdd size im not sure about yet (maybe around 300 gig). they aren't a big factor in my computing needs. as far as the CPU and v. card go, i need more multitasking abilities than gaming so that's why i was going that route. plus i've never oc'ed anything before, so i want to "start out" fast since i don't know how to "make it" fast. (not that im opposed to oc'ing - i plan to once i learn more)

ok if thats wat you want. i personally dont think there would be that big of a performance decrease from a 4400+ to a 4200+ and u could still upgrade your card for later down the road.

but if u want to keep it, its just fine.

well now you've got me second guessing myself. are you suggesting that i go to a 4200 based on a cost to performance ratio?

I see you're running a 4800, how come you suggest something less?

another thing, now that you've got me going. i can only find articles on oc'ing a 4200, not a 4400....any idea why?

thanks for your input, btw. im new.

they would overclock the same way. go all the way to a X2 3800+, and overclock it easily to 2.4 GHz. I'd then go with the 7900GT

Absolutely

Now if you can afford a 4800 then this wouldnt be an issue ;)

Well the 4200/4400 has access to two more multipliers than the 3800...

and overclock it easily to 2.4 GHz
Yes but 2.4Ghz isnt a big feat ... 2.8GHz+ thats a different story :)

I'd also ditach that mobo for a slew of better boards

but 4400 got 2x1mb cache, compare to 2x512kb 4200

im going 4400 with 6800gs ...im sure 6800 will run anything u through into it anyways

Hmm...Im confused why some of you said that the ASUS mobo he stated is not good for overclocking. Why? Isn't it supposed to be good for that?

According to all of the reviews I've read, the board was designed w/ OC'ing mind (to what degree, I don't know). I'm not sure how it stands up to other boards, but seeings how I've never OC'ed or even built a machine before...I'm not going to worry about it just yet. Live and learn. Anyways, I've decided on the following which I will be ordering today (3/20). Wish me luck. -(cause I'll be needing it)

ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4
eVGA 256-P2-N386-AX Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3
Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200)
