Ok.
My plan is to over clock my e6300 stock 1.83GHz, to something higher, what do you recommend i clock it to. Heres the cooler i had in mind.

is that good? , will AS5 be needed? at all.

and to be prepared, i plan to view Ku's video, and read and know Oc101.
Then, maybe some extra research if i feel i dont feel prepared.


any tips you can share with me about over clocking?
like if i mess up, could i kill my cpu for good?


And ill be using air cooling with an intake fan, sorta blocked by hdd rack, and then an outtake, i might cut a fan hole, either in or out on top, and would i over do it by adding another on the side?

...To be prepared? You should have read the OC101 before even making a thread. That will teach you to overclock slowly, make sure each increment is a stable one, and what to do when it is no longer stable.

The heatsink you linked to is fine. You won't be playing with voltages too much.

All that can really kill you CPU is too high a voltage. The same with your memory, if its too high. As I don't have a C2D, im not sure what temp monitoring programs are best to monitor core (not CPU) temps, or what its max safe core temp is. I'm sure someone can recommend some.

Heat isnt the major issue with the core 2 duo's, even a cheap cooler such as the Freezer 7 Pro (what I have), does a great job for a ~$20 cooler. That $50 could be spent on upgrading to the E6400.

Now if you think about that, any overclock you might gain by using that cooler instead of stock, would be lost when you consider the fact that you could have saved $10 and bought the E6400, and you most likely could get that higher on stock.
 
iam not returning my 6300...
i HATE, HATE, HATE the store that sold me it.
ive had numerous issues with them selling used goods, not telling me things, exc.

i just want to know i can do well on a decent cooler
 
I've had my E6300 running @ 3.57 Ghz with no high temperatures using the stock cooler. So where is the problem?
 
oh did not know that.
i wanted to be cautiousness and be sure the stock would be fine.
is using it to get around there sliding by? or is it over the top.
 
Yes you could screw the CPU so go slow and move up in small steps.
Find out how to reset the BIOS quickly because you'll probably need to do that a few times before you get something stable.

Make sure your temperature monitor is reasonably accurate if you can.

worth over clocking graphic card?
and is there a better, possibly cheaper cpu cooler?

and can i actually screw the cpu up so it never works again?
