Hello every body my mom got a netbook for christmas from my dad it is an Ho mini. it ran fine for a while and now just recently has slowed down I have ran virus scans on it and everything and it all appears to be fine but it seems like with every boot it takes a lot longer to boot.

windows 7 starter is the OS

Sounds like your mum has been installing lots of useless toolbars and the like. (i know from personal experence. my parents have royally cocked up my computer with toolbars before)

Anyway, i would have a look in control panel for any sort of toolbars, and uninstall them all.
Followed by running these free programs:

CCleaner
Malwarebytes
Auslogics Disk Defrag
Auslogics Registry Cleaner

They are all designed to keep computers running at optimal performance by removing malware/infections, defragginf hard drives and cleaning temp files, old registry entries and the like.

She has noy installed anything at all and I have run most of those programs and I still do not have an answer it is odd I have never seen this before

have you checked your computer for any dust etc, if not open up side of your computer ( make sure your power is off and unplugged, and just check your components for any dust, if its dusty then get a can of compressed air and blow off any you find then try it after!!!

Yeah I would do that but it wont boot all the way up

if you cant lose your data:
on startup, as soon as the hp screen goes away, hit f8 like crazy. then go to safemode with networking, install malwarebytes, update it, and scan

if you dont care about your data:
on startup, hit f11 like crazy. it will boot you to the recovery partition, then you can just recover the computer to how it was when you opened it from the box

After hours of trying I decided to take it to best buy and I found out it was a failed hard drive there for I could have done nothing to help fix it

haha bestbuy prolly just ripped you off i had a buddy that took hsi laptop to bestbuy after telling him the only problem was memory he wanted to see what they told him

they told him his hdd, memory, and wireless card were all bad, what happened i replaced the memory works like a charm

never go to bestbuy

they replaced the hard drive with a bigger one it was a 120 the y put in a 250 and installed windows 7 and charged us nothing for it. I dont think we got ripped off at all

Not in your case but I have heard lots of stories about geek squad and bestbuy being bad. I personnally haven't used their service so I cannot speak from experience. However maybe It depends on which bestbuy you go to.

well not so much which bestbuy you go to. It just depends on whats wrong if its something they can fix in store then they could screw it up but anything that I have had done has all been stuff were they ship it out to the manufacturer to fix

I would start at the basics and work from there, i would definitely recommend the defrag and reg cleaner mentioned before, and malwarebytes is good but I've found that lorais trojan remover it finds a lot more due to the way it scans...After you've scanned, defraged ( preferably offline, and cleaned the reg do an offline disk check and make sure everything is in order, perform a deep clean of all the vents and exhaust spots. Also check and make sure that all of your drivers are up to date and the bios is up to date. hope it helps -gates

I think the problem is solved now. It was a failing hard drive.
