Hi I'm new (Need help building a comp)

Comp(Newb)

New Member
Hello, I live in Manitoba Canada and I heard about this forum and people have told me that it is very helpful so I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm fairly new when it comes to building computers, I know a bit of the vocab and def's but I'm still a little unsure about things, but ya I was wondering if someone who isn't busy and could help me...i want to build a new computer, I think i can manage the building part, I need someone to help me with parts as I am not familiar with many of the newer parts and newer ideas like dual core etc.

But yes the type of computer that I need is something that can game/do work/and be able to last me say 3,4,5 years? something that will be able to still install some of the programs that people release in say 2010. I do have a budget, but it's not as important as getting a good quality computer. If someone could help me find a computer that is about $1200-$1400 or maybe less. Maybe some one could help me find a computer that is about 1000 and another that is say 1400 (please keep in mind that it needs to be in Candian dollars) and I will do a comparison or mayb others can. I don't need people to pick out monitor/harddrive/mice/keyboard/speakers/modem/etc etc I just need motherboard, cpu, graphics, ram, case, fairly solid dvd drive, and maybe a power supply if the case doesn't come with one and anything else that I'm missing. Am I asking for a little too much? If i am i'm sorry and just disregard this, but I will be grateful if someone could help me. Is this msg too long? Sorry and thanks again

For the most part, you can start having a look at this : http://www.computerforum.com/605034-post7.html

Of course you can modify it to suit your needs. For now that built does not have a video card that would last u 3-5 years, but new DirectX10 cards will come out soon. Basicly you can use this as guideline to start.

Btw, it was mentionned to me that the OCZ ram did not fit with the Gigabyte mobo, so you could just switch it to some Corsair RAM. The case is one I plan to get for a built of my own, but it can easily be changed for a cheaper one. The PSU could be improved by getting a NeoHe 550w if you plan on getting a demanding video card.
