me build a comp. and im talking about like helping me through the whole process. i got 1200 bucks for the actual comp itself (as in im paying for the mouse, moniter, etc. seperately) and i would like a gaming comp. any takers? thank you! and please, please know what you are doing! can you tell me if you have made your own, or what you have done? thank you thank you THANK YOU!

dude come on atleast do SOME research before you post... i mean like post a list of parts and if they're compatibel.. come on.. go with AMD for gaming

ya do some research as boogi said and i suggest reading the 101's in this forum.
here are the basic components you'll need:
CPU, RAM, motherboard, video card, PSU, HDD, case, and any optical drives
also do you want to buy all the parts from one place? like newegg?

If you really don't feel like doing the research, go to Alienware.com, pick a $2000 computer, copy the list of the parts for that computer, and buy the parts yourself. The total cost should be around your budget. And you know it's a good gaming system, since Alienware (they have professional experience) put it together specifically for gaming.

god i just typed a huge thing, pressed back then forward and it went away. UGH

so basically i was just asking if someone would say "yes" to helping me build a comp. then i was going to introduce what i wanted. like a 3700+ amd san diego, a 7800gt from evga, and a nice motherboard that i could upgrade a lot with later, like more ram, another 7800GT for sli, the works ya know. so would anyone like to help me? ....please?

edit: oh and yes to buying all the parts from one place! thanks

edit again: oh and from newegg yes. and im looking for under 1200 for the comp! (so not including the moniter and all that stuff...ill pay for that with other money i have)

THANKYOU! seriously thanks everyone

I guess that what everyone else is saying is put a little more effort into it rather than just expecting us to tell you everything. Find parts and ask everyone "Is this good to you for gaming?" Whats your level of expertise? That would give us a start as far as where to begin to help.

A decent start:

DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D -$129.99
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ -$313.00
1 Gig (512 X 2) Crucial Ballistix (2-2-2-6) -$115.00
eVGA 7800GT (Lifetime Warenty) -$295.00
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250 Gb SATA 3.0 Gb/s (16 Mb Cache) -$101.00
Antec TruePower 2.0 TrueControl II-550 -$109.99

Subtotal: $1,063.98, -20 MIR.

Leaves plenty of room for case and drives of your choice :)

hey thanks!! but i gott ask a few more questions...

1)cooling! what do i need to do? i know notihng about how to cool and what i should look out for and all of that!

2)the ram. would it be a better idea to get a 1 gig stick instead? so that i can upgrade to a max of 4 in the future? like the corsair xms series 1 gig stick?

3)if i wanna get online...we have broadband here...do i need to just have a cord going from this family comp everyone uses (that has broadband) to my room in my comp? eh?

thank you! also, whats this about bios? is it going to be very difficult for me? im a bright kid, but im kinda goin into unfamiliar territory. am i going to understand it at all?

THANKYOU! seriously, thanks so much!

and i have been reading all of these reviews on the dual processors...apparently, they arent that great for gaming. i dont do a lot of things at once, id just be on the internet or playing games... so would i SAVE money by going to a single core? what are the positives and the negatives of this?? thanks!

For general use and light overclocking, you dont need to buy any aditional fans as the case fans and included HSF will be sufficient.

With 1 gig you only get single channel, but If your upgrading to 2 Gb soon it will outweigh having to run 2T. Keep in mind that one gig sticks (generaly) run at higher timings. For 1 Gb RAM sticks these or these are my favorite, they are both cheap and run at tight timings and (usualy) capable of DDR500. Corsair XMS is also nice but it's overpirced IMHO.

3)if i wanna get online...we have broadband here...do i need to just have a cord going from this family comp everyone uses (that has broadband) to my room in my comp? eh?
I know nothing about networking so dont ask me, but your going to have to run a new cable through.

My board has the same BIOS. Its not that its harder to work with than other boards, it just has more tweaking options. If you dont use what you dont know about you'll be fine.

You would save money, and performance might be better now, but many new games (FEAR for example) are already dual core, and in the future dual core will offer even more benefits.

You can do that, but it's not the best idea. For one thing, the family comp will have to be turned on whenver you wish to use the Internet on either computer.

What you really should do is buy a router, plug your broadband modem into the router, and then plug all your PCs into the router as well. You'll need to be using Cat5/6 Ethernet cable (not USB if that's how your computer is connected now). So just buy a router, and Cat 5 or 6 patch cables in whatever amount and length you require.

Also, i'd strongly recommend getting a Dual Core chip. It will perform significantly better with newer/future games/apps.
