Hi-speed internet...sometimes...

Hello,
I'm new here and my computer knowledge is a bit limited. But I have a problem that is driving me crazy! I have a Dell Inspiron 2650. I recently got a high speed internet connection, but the computer sometimes can't find it. My old dial-up is still in place, and when I start the machine it says it's connected to the new (fast) connection- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No rhyme or reason to it. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and that seemed a bit better. If I run my Spybot and Spyware Blaster, then it will work again (sometimes).
Any help/advice much appreciated!
Cheers,
Paul.

my advice to you is to take the modem out of your system if your no longer using it.....modems are screwy like that and they cause alot of driver and IRQ conflicts

Is it a wireless connection?

:D Hey man...is it a wireless high-speed connection? If it is it could be a weak signal causing that. Anyway...I wish you good luck with solving it.

It sounds as though your onboard modem is causing some conflict with your ADSL modem. This is trivial but if you're from the USA then I think you call it cable, or broadband?
Anyway, have you disabled your on board modem?
