Hibernate killed new Computer (FML)

Since this build is for gaming, I would recommend a gaming series from Antec, because of the efficiency of the Amps on the rails, but it is not modular.

thats actually what i got. it came in today. Antec gaming series 750 watt its suppose to be more stable. Cable management was tough. It had a lot of connections and thick cables but its works great. I'll never get eartwatts or any green psu again, atleast not for gaming.

I've been following this thread for a while and I am glad you got it all sorted out. Pretty much rule of thumb when it comes to power supplies is don't buy unheard of PSU's always stick to the well heard of reputable brands such as Corsair, Antec and any PSU's listed here in the Good PSU list.

I know my first one was Antec too so its failure came as a surprise.

It was a few hours later after I made my post above, that my PSU died after being hibernated from Windows 7... I was running an Antec CP-850. I have had it for close to two years, but it was only used for about 5 months.

I shorted the two PSU wires, and it did not turn on, so I ended up buying an Antec HCG-900.

I wonder if there is a bug in Windows 7 hibernate?

Hibernate is a notoriously unstable function of Microsoft OS. Seems like win 7 might be even worse for this. Hibernate (standby) puts the power supply into a low current/volt state that sometimes kills it altogether. Some PSU's can handle it, others can't. Always research the model first. I ignored the complaints about the model i had before and I regretted it later. It could also be due to a wrong combo of OS and PSU. I don't know if Mac's hibernate mode is any more stable.
