Hidden files after XP reinstall

I reinstalled Windows XP on my computer. Now all of my installed program files are hidden and I can't use them. Can someone tell me how to fix this?
 
Maybe was a poor choice of words. All of my desktop icons are gone. I can open the programs folder in C: drive folder thru My Computer but I don't know how to get the Icons back on my desktop are in the start program menu.
 
To be able to view hidden folders open a folder window e.g. 'My Computer' then press the tab 'Tools' - 'Folder Properties' the second tablet 'View' and enable it from there.

well, have you reinstalled all the programs yet? if you have, the icons on your desktop may be 'disabled'. if that's the case, right click somewhere on your desktop that does not have an icon, highlight arrange icons. then select 'show desktop icons'
 
right click on empty start menu bar
properties
start menu
customize
advance

if they are not set to show on start menu, make them show on start menu. apply changes.

go to start, right click on them, and check "show on desktop"
if not, just drag it to the desktop.

after go back into the settings and uncheck them if u dont want them on the start menu
