high CPU temps

If I let my computer cool down completely and then boot right into BIOS it says my CPU temp is about 59-60 Celcius. Is it even possible for the CPU to heat up that quick? When I go into windows it gives me crazy temps like 99 and 129 with motherboard monitor. So my guess is neither BIOS or windows can detect the right temp and the problem is on the motherboard.

Is there any way of fixing this or maybe a different way of checking the temp? It says my case temp is about 39 C and that seems right to me. I checked all these temps with the case open and 2 180mm fans running form the back and the front AND with a large regular fan blowing into the case.

Also could there be a problem from my power supply (as in not enough power)? Im using a 300w ps and running an AMD 64 3400+ on a MSI K8t NEO.

Well, CPU temps are going to be higher than Case temps... Thats a given... What CPU do you have? Is it an AMD? Because without the right cooling techniques, they are known for running hot!

AMD Athlon 64 3400+. I have a fan in the back right next to it and one in the front near the bottom. Is it necessary to put a fan on the side next to the cpu? Regardless tho, even with the case open and a large desk fan blowing into the case right on the cpu it said it was at 50 something C.

Okay, my first PC build was hell. This same thing happened to me. I would turn on the computer and it would shut off in like 45 seconds because the tempature went to like 99 degrees celsius. So, after a month of buying fans and trying to figure out why, I realized what it was. That AMD pad thing was the culprit, it wasn't transfering the coolness of the heatsink to the CPU. So all I did was remove it and use thermal paste and WALA! Working computer.

That was what happneend to.

If its not that, get a new heatsink. Your gonna want a nice aftermarket one.
