Hey guys well the MOBO died on my old PC so I'm going to build a new one. Here I have a list of all the components I'm considering right now along with their prices, and there's some questions on the bottom. If you guys could make recommendations/additions and answer any/all of the questions that'd be fantastic.

Questions:

1. Will the eVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP video card be enough to power the 24'' Dell LCD monitor for games at high quality?

2. Is there any changes you guys see that could be made to cut down on the price but not significantly downgrade the performance?

3. Is there any special kind of network card you guys would recommend? (I have 10 meg cable modem)

4. I'm getting two HD's because my intention is to use the 150 GB one with 10,000 RPM to install all my programs and Windows on and the 750 GB one for storage of movies, music, images and other files. Is this a good idea?

Thanks to anyone and everyone who helps!

1. The card will due fine, I have seen it in the mall where Dell had a 1080P LCD TV playing games on a 8800GT/X.
2. I suggest you get a different mobo and processor, preferably, Core 2 Duo.
3. I got no clue about network cards.
4. That's all awesome idea.
:D

First off thanks a bunch for the reply :)

I'm not very up-to-date with processors, is the Core 2 Duo Intel or AMD? Also, why do you recommend it over the AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Toledo 2.6GHz? Any links to some of the high-end Core 2 Duo's would be greatly appreciated.

Core 2 Duo no darn doubt all the way to spain

E6600, look it up on newegg, or go with the Q7X... or something if you have the cash

1st off, you're putting a socket 939 cpu on an AM2 board. Not gonna work :)

2nd off, as the others said, get a core 2 duo, they're much better than the FX-60.

Thanks for the help guys, I renewed the MOBO/processor to the following:

Motherboard: ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2000200280+4802&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=280
Price: $224.99

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115002
Price: $509.00

Is there anything wrong with these two selections? Is there a better MOBO/processor choice? The only other core 2 duo CPU's were the extreme ones and were a lot more expensive, let me know what you guys think.

Looking good, you could even downgrade to the E6600 if you wanted to save a little money. That mobo is good, the Evga 680i is another great option.

You don't need to spend anywhere near that much on a PSU. Even if you were planning to upgrade to SLI'd 8800GTXs the Silverstone ST75ZF would be more than sufficient. If SLI isn't a consideration, the Corsair HX520W would be fine. If you really want to spend $350 on a PSU, i'd favour the Silverstone Olympia 1KW over the Enermax Galaxy 1KW.

with that much for a build might as well throw in another raptor for a raid 0 and another 750gb for a raid 1 :)

i think you should stick with a e6600. the price gap between it and the 6700 is not worth it and you can oc it.

definately e6600, not much performance difference between it and the e6700 at all, i mean use that extra 200 for something else, and go with the evga 680i

I'd like to thank everyone for their replies and help, I have a revised build done below and some new questions that I would really appreciate some answers to:

Questions:

1. Can anyone tell me how much the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz CPU can be overclocked safely? Could it reach 3.0ghz without any problems?

2. Could someone please tell me how many and what kind of fans I would need for this build? I have no clue when it comes to fans and would really appreciate some help.

3. My intention is to have the storage drive(500 GB) and the primary program drive(150 GB) both accessible while in windows. Is this achieved through some kind of RAID?

4. Is there anything missing in this build that I should add?

Thanks to anyone and everyone who helps!

1) yeah it can reach that easily if you know what you are doing and have good cooling

2) go with this case and these fans:

Why change the case? The one he has is perfectly fine.

3) Just plug them both in, Windows will see them. No RAID needed.

this case is better, larger, and stronger, and he needs a big safehouse for all those nice components

he picked out a mid-tower, that wont even closely fit his 8800GTX

Joe thank you very much you have been very helpful :)

One last question(for now lol) could you recommend a good networking card for 10meg cable modem connection? Thanks again.

The 680i SLi board has onboard Gigabit Ethernet which will be fine. It's built in and will be fast. 100 times what your internet connection is capable of.

I still don't see why you're spending so much $ on your PSU. My friend has a 550Watt PSU running his 8800GTX.
