Highly Secured E-Mail Service

By any chance, is there an e-mail service that is highly encrypted that nobody can read your e-mails? Isn't it funny how we just log into a server for example Hotmail, Google and all our confidential information can be found there? It's like the USA or whoever wants can spy on us anytime they want, if they have power such as Google and Hotmail?

There was an E-mail service I knew about out of Iceland that used encryption. The NSA couldn't touch it either. I can't remember the name though. Your best bet would be to use PGP in your E-mails, but the receiver would need to decode it. Another solution would be to use AES encrypted text in E-mails and use your own E-mail server. There are several E-mail server solutions out there. One is called ireadmail.
