Hey,

once you delet your history is there neway to veiw it...my uncle says there is nd he noes how to but wont show me...if there is a way. HOW!?

I think he's saying this to keep you from going on 'certain sites' ;)

There may be a thing like when you delete an email there's usually a trash folder, this may be what he is referring to.

Are you talking about on an internet browser or a firewall?

Lemme xplain..........he does comptuter securtiy for a living....he comes in while im on the pc and goes i can tell you every web site this comptuer has visited this month....even if the history was deleted.. then he said but, that would invade your privacy so i wont............how was he going to do taht? to answer your question on firefox

Hmm, I know that I'm safe in my household when I just go clear the history and cache and download manager, but then again no one in my family does computer security.

I can't think of any other way, but since he does work with computer security I would not doubt he has a way of finding out. Perhaps Buzz would have an idea, or at least someone more knowledgeable about it than me.

google for a program called PurgeIE (or it might be IEPurge). Anyway, it'll clear it all out.

Even if you delete something it will still be on your hard drive until windows writes over it again. There are programs that can retrieve this data up to a certain point even is it has been writen over! Get a program called windows washer and set it to wash everything for 32 times and what it will do is write random numbers 0's and 1's on the freespace on your hard drive making the data retrievable, then tell him (OH YEAH PROOVE IT) :D

If he does computer security for a living, and he is a cheap *$@&!^#, he quite possible could have a monitering program or keylogger installed on your computer.

There is a way, works with IE, at least. It's in a hidden file called index.dat. There's a system.dat file in every folder, so you have to know which ones to look for (and how to look for them) and how to view the relevant data.

Your uncle is correct, it can be done quite easily by looking at your index.dat file. There are also a multitude of other traces which a security expert could find. I would recommend downloading one of the many privacy protection programs, which will remove these traces.

Crap Cleaner (free) claims to do this, and although i've never tested it thoroughly, it looks quite good.

There are a few programs that can retrieve deleted info from HDDs,regardless of whether they are reformatted, overwriiten or what everyou have thrown at it. EnCase is probably the best.

Thanks, ceewi1, that's what I intended to write. I corrected my original post... note to self, don't post while sleeping. :o
