Hit CPU, will it still work?

I was cleaning my PC and reinstalling my Watercooling system. My PC case was on its side and one of the Coolersockets sat on the side of the Case. All of a sudden, the kind of heavy Coolingsocket fell off the side of my Case, into the inside and right on my cpu!!!!!!! It now has a tiny tiny little dent right in the middle of it. You guys think it survived or are the chances more likely that its broken? I didnt test it yet, i didnt have time plus i am scared to death that my 3.6GHz $500 CPU has died, not even in peace. I would die too. :(

i dropped my HSF on my mobo b4, bent a few resistors and at first it wouldn't boot at all. But after a cleared CMOS and a little "re-bending" it booted fine and is still running. CPU might be a different story, as you can;t just pop-out the dent. only way to tell is to try it. if it's not that deep it might still work fine. the thing is if it is a deep dent you will have heat problems now. it's like a heat pocket now and thermal paste might not do the trick:(

1. Uh ... well the quickest way to find out is to ... turn it on.
2. Dont 775 chips have a shell of sorts?

775s have a big heat spreader but it is really well glued to the die. If the dent is really small it might be ok but I'd bet that something is damaged
