HJsplit

Hi fellas I have joined 2 files using HJSPLIT an the output is wierd. Under properties I see:

"Type of file: 0 File (.0)
Opens with: Windows Shell Commor"

When I double click it, it says windows cannot open this file and I get an option to search the net or open it using software from my computer. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. I have Vista Ultimate by the way.

You first need to post the type of file or files that you joined together. Are they text files, batch files, etc.?

The 1st file is.001 and the 2nd one is .002

Then that's correct.

HJSplit splits them into .001, .002, etc. type files.

To join them again, you will have to use HJSplit again and open up the very first .001 file. Of course, making sure that all the files are in the same folder/location.

No its not correct. It says the file already exists if I run HJsplit again. You see I joined 2 files to get the 1 file I need to install the program. However when I double click it, it says windows cannot open this file and I get an option to search the net or open it using software from my computer.

Yes, that is correct. The output of the file has nothing to do with HJSplit. HJSplit simply splits and joins it's files.

Now, what you need to find out is; wherever you downloaded that file, check the site for any type of additional program you may need or installation instructions.

From that output, it doesn't look like a valid file. I would say that it was a corrupt download, or you need an additional program to extract and/or install it.

That would be more likely and hopefully didn't foobar the works as far as the original files go. A fresh copy on removable media like a floppy may show that right away. When downloading any new freewares found I usually download multiple copies to separate folders in the event one is...?
