HL2 Ending

P.I Dragon
I know the game isnt exactly new now but ive only just completed it. And WTF, that ending, talk about anti-climax. Destroy the core.... BOOM..... "time Dr Freeman, yes......" Creepy administrator guy.

I was hoping to free the world from the combine and shit but NO, it just all blows up in a mass of dark energy and BOOM. That guy walks out a door that doesnt exist.

To think i spent a whole week playing that game just to that. And "alyx" probably died too, damnit....

Anyone else think it wa a bit crap. I know they rushed the release date, perhaps it wasnt actually finished and they had to do a slapdash ending. But hey, talk about leaving it gaping wide open for a HL3 followup...... or some kickass expansion packs to add to the end of it.

That's how they all end....HAvn't you played Halflife one/ Half life blue shift? and half like opising force :P (If you havn't. then go play them now, great games, but graphic's arn't wuite as good as HL2's)

yeah, all of the games have odd endings like that. i suppose it is a bit of a marketing ploy but that also gives the game some depth of story and it gives you the feeling you are being manipulated throughout the game; which is backed up by the fact that you see the gman thoughout the game

I finished the game a long time ago, wicked ending, one of the best I've seen...

there is an expansion pack in the works, half life 2 aftermath. en don't worry dragon, alyx is still alive.

I've played HL1 but never finished it, got bored half way through

Get up close and personal with Alyx
Zoom in'Half-Life 2: Aftermath' Screenshot 2

"We really want Alyx to grow as a character," he insists in the Gamer piece. "There was the promise of that in the first game, but we spent so much of our time introducing her as a character, we didn't really get a chance to spend time with her for an entire section. She would flit in and out. Since she's with you quite a lot, we're working on ways to make her a lot more interesting to be around, a lot more interesting to interact with." Ahem. A burgeoning romance perhaps?

As for where Aftermath is set, and the timeline, it's very much a logical continuation from where Half-Life 2 left off, as Laidlaw goes on to explain in the PC Gamer feature: "[Aftermath] deals with the events and issues set in motion during Half-Life 2. You've done critical damage to the Citadel. The whole place is going to go up, taking out City 17 and what's in its immediate radius. You and Alyx are leading the flight from the city getting up close and personal with some of the creatures and sights from the end of the game." Interestingly, apart from a few ambiguous illustrative captions, the PCG piece at no stage makes it 100 per cent explicit that Alyx's sidekick will be Gordon. However, writer Tim Edwards has subsequently clarified that you do play as Gordon in Aftermath.

Unlike in Half-Life 2, creatures that were barred from the confines of City 17 have now found a new home unfettered by the barriers that kept them at bay previously. "We have a philosophy that we try to re-use and provide interesting twists to our core concepts," says Walker in the same PC Gamer feature. "Like the Antlions started the game as your enemy, and then became your friends later on. In Aftermath, City 17 was 'one thing' and now it's this 'other thing'," he continues, refusing doggedly to elaborate despite probing from PC Gamer UK writer Tim Edwards, the man who unearthed this stunning exclusive ahead of the world's press.

I tried twice. Don't think I even made it halfway through. Love Half Life 2 though. Played it through several times.

i have the game of the year edition, im not sure if its the same as other normal ones, but for me some sound files are in C:/Valve/ConditionZero/valve/media and yes, there are a lot of crap ones, most are jkust the backing noise that you hear all the time, but some are the actual good bits of music.

I happend to enjoy half life 2s ending. It was different. Every other games ending is BOOM BANG OMG< I juST HEad sHOt. Half life2 is differnet, it makes you think. Plus it fits in right along half life 1s ending as a fellow member stated. Although half life dragged on forever, half life2...those 13 hours just flew by. I cant wait till aftermath comes out. And what do you mean? Dr. Breen (the white haired guy) is the administrater. Gman (the guy you meet in the end) is well....gman. Have you not been paying attention to the story, lol? Finaly, I am going to have to get the music and the expansion packs. :D

Also for anyone who has played half life1 and 2, is it just me or do they spell it different. In half life1 it is written on the wall "kill freemen" or something and in half life2 it is freeman.

And to ramble on more about gman (what? he kicks ass and you know it :P) Who else thinks gman is freeman?

Walks off saying. "wake up and smell the ashes Mr. Freeman..."
