HL2: Episode One Blank CD?

I just bought HL2: Episode 1 for pc and when i put the cd in, it was reading it for a while then it just stopped. And the light thats normally on when a readable cd is in wasnt on. So i looked under the my computer/cd drive, and there was no files on it. So i re-inserted the disc with Steam open, to see if that would do anything, still nothing.

Did i get ripped? Im taking it back tomorrow.

nvm, figured out it was a DVD-ROM and not CD. Something like that should be put on the box.......I got it figured out now, and for future reference to anyone wanting to buy the game you will need a dvd drive.

Yes but it doesnt say on the box whether its CD or DVD, so i had no way of knowing. I just looked EVERYWHERE on the box, even the small print, it dont say. Which it really should though.

And i just googled it, i didnt see a PC CD version..........i dont think there is.

You can tell if its a DVD by looking at the under side of it.

How could you not even have a DVD-ROM drive? lol

So you are telling me that with that good of a comp u got, you didn't invest $30 for a DVD drive?
lol. Actually no, i didnt have a DVD drive. Iv never had the need for one, iv always wanted one, but never got around to buying one. I just now ordered a $35 Sony DVD burner, cd burner, and all that good jazz all in one, so it will replace my 24x cd writer.

I borrowed my step-dads external DVD burner to install the game.

Fry's, I regret it because the game sucked. Not worth 20$, maybe 10$.

How did it suck? Dont tell me the ending. Iv played it for about 5 mins last night cuz it took like 3 hours to update. But i thought it was pretty cool.

But question. Is this one RAM demanding? Cuz when i played it it was stuttering REALLY bad, and i had it set on what i play the normal HL2 at, which runs fine with HL2.

Sounds like your system might not be stable. Have a blast of Prime95 and Memtest and if it comes out alright then I'm not sure. Update graphics drivers?

If I ever have a crash on a game, first thing I do is test my system's stability to rule out if my system was at fault.

lol, well it was 800x600 with 8-bit color!! And it wouldnt let me change it, so i restarted. And i have nothing overclocked, not even my memory, and i increased the memory timings to 3-5-5-8 and it still does it, so i dont think its my memory. Im not sure what it is, but its happening more frequent. Corrupted game files maybe? Maybe a re-install would help?
