Starting off with Episode One however is even worse then starting with HL2 and never even knowing about HL1 in the sense of "what is the game about?". At least having run HL2 first you understand the story line far better and are familiat with all of the characters as well. Getting the collectors edition is even better there since you get the digitally remastered Half Life along with HL2 plus the HL2 deathmatch and CS packages.
