HL2: Episode One graphics

no its not an expansion pack, its a standalone game, you do not need HL2 to run it... it continues from where the citadel exploded and g-man came and rescued you

You still need Steam/Source to run it. Don't forget itt still connects to your "existing" or new account depending on when you install it. Lost Coast is the one that is downloaded to your HL2 installation free of charge. Episode One starts off from the citidel with a few new twists as you hoof it out of there and flee across C17. The game maps are slightly larger at times or you are simply facing far more combines, zombies, antlions, etc. :D

i didnt say you didnt, i said you didnt need HL2 to run it, because someone else implied it was an expansion pack, which it isnt

You still run it with the Steam/Source engine. I didn't say you needed HL2 to run it. Listen carefully now. It runs on the same servers as HL2, C.Strike, and others. You still have to create a new account with the product id number unless you are already running HL2 or one of the others.

Thats what i said lol.... i never once implied that you didnt need steam/source engine, of course you do, im not that daft, i was simply stating to some other guy that it is not an expansion pack onto HL2, and it does not require Hl2 to be installed.... i never metioned anything about running off the same servers as HL2 etc... that was you who bought that into the convo....

*EDIT* - that and the act that my first comments werent even directed to you, i was talking to Apokarteron...

Starting off with Episode One however is even worse then starting with HL2 and never even knowing about HL1 in the sense of "what is the game about?". At least having run HL2 first you understand the story line far better and are familiat with all of the characters as well. Getting the collectors edition is even better there since you get the digitally remastered Half Life along with HL2 plus the HL2 deathmatch and CS packages.

You should go to the screenshot contest to see a few scenes there. Let's say some vehicles were "added". :P

There is an instince at the very bigging where you get into a car and then fall down a shaft- but you dont acctualy get to drive it like you could with the buggy/airboat in Half-Life 2. (There is a video of you riding in the car in HL2EP1 somewhere around here...)

In Episode One that's where "Dog" throws Freeman and Alex across the gap to the citadel in an old wreck of a bus in order to get inside to proceed downwards. At the end there's another vehicle. But I'll leave that forr you to find out.

as i heard nvidia card can't do HDR and Antialiazing at the same time, but i have geforce 6600, and i was able to run it on HDR and AA at same time

can someone explain why?

Now try setting the Antialiasing to more then the 2X shown there like to 4 or higher to see how it runs. At certain settings or on different systems depending on whether OCing, updated drivers, or just different boards and memory play a factor you probably heard what was seen on one system only mainly in some review. Games run differently at times for obvious reasons when there are various hardware/software configurations.

And everyone thinks you have to have a $500- video card to play games?! A lot of that can be hype too often. Lately from I what I've been seeing here often enough is that the older games will drag like heck while the newer ones will run smooth as silk with an AGP 4x/8x card. You should be seeing even better gaming with the newer PCI-E cards.

Is there HDR on all the levels? I just got the game and started playing, and on the first level it doesn't look like theres HDR, then again I've never seen it in action. So far it looks like bloom(although more intense), I thought it was supposed to be an active effect(like when you go from dark to light, there will be over exposure for a brief amount of time)?

HDR is in every level. The first level has the most HDR in the whole game-If you listen to those little chat box things it sais they have it to show off Alyx's face.
