HL2 unlock?

How do you unlock HL2? I looked through all the searches and still can't find out how. I don't want to have to be connected to the internet to launch the game.
 
I dont think "unlock" is the right word. If you want to play steam offline, you will need to download all the updates for it, then go into the settings and enable offline mode.
 
hmm... im not sure since i know the old version of steam had an option for offline use. You can try having steam remember your password, and if all your games are up to date then it might work.
 
Supposedly you have to update your game, then exit Steam completely. "Pull" out the RJ45-cable (modem/network) and then start up Steam. Steam should then go into offline mode and you should be able to play HL2 offline.

You sure about this? Last time I checked you have to be online the very first time to "unlock" files. After this you no longer need an Internet connection. Also you should not have to set offline mode in steam. When you try to launch HL2 Steam detects that you are not connected and asks if you want to play offline or something to that effect. I play offline all the time yet never went into the steam options to set offline. I still say Valve sucks for making us have an Internet connection to unlock files.

Or you do what I did when I had dial-up. Start up HL2 while online, then load your saved game. When you are done loading your saved game and are in the game itself then unplug you network cable. Worked for me :D
