so i built my computer on thursday, no problems and it was so incredibly easy! thats first

Biostar TForce550
X2 3800+ 2.0GHZ
2GB G.Skill DDR2-800
7900GS

and i overclocked it today... sooo rocky at first and i was so depressed

then the lightning struck:::::

i reached 2.5 ghz with a minimal voltage increase with stock everything!!!! who knows how high i can go

it took me a long time to configure everything perfect but now i can go very high and i am so amazed and happy. i tried to tell my dad but he doesnt know what it means, so i have to let my feelings out somewhere. lol

what were some of other people's first OC with stock?

lol dont go overboard with it. overclocking is good and well, but overdoing it will destroy your system and you will regret trying to squeeze that little extra power from it. if you go higher, and you reach 3ghz, stop there and leave it, because thats pretty much the limit. trying to go higher would be technical suicide

lol ok, but if it works and its good then why not?

i am at 2.6!! stock cooling and everything, its too easy!

i think i will run stability tests now, my idle temp is 30

btw 3.0 ghz is like the world record for my CPU lol, and i have a biostar mobo

okay i am sticking at 2.5

i can defiantely go much higher, but there is no need

ill stay stable and safe, i am so happy with 2.5!!! i am amzaded!!

thanks to everyone for all their help and support!!

Got mine to 2.8ghz. In reviews i hear 2.8 is the top OC reached on them. Its their block. The barrier for the Manchester. If yours is a Manchester that is.

I dont think any X2 3800+ Could reach 3ghz. Since they have a lower multi that would be a 300mhz internal clock!!

those are the CPU temps, i am using software that came with my motherboard as well as PC Wizard to monitor, and they are consistent.

its a windsor, and i think it could reach 3.0ghz but i like 2.5 just to be safe for now with my stock cooling

i had 2.5 on Prime95 for 6 hours and it was hovering around 56 CPU temps which is a little high but okay, and i need to get aftermarket cooling soon

lol what a nerd jk good job make sure you don't push the processor to far without the proper cooling since stock mostly blows other than that go right ahead

yeah, i am a nerd... i started this building and stuff three months ago at this forum with absolutely no knowledge of any of this computer business lol

what a great forum...

but you really only need cooling for the voltage increases, and i have only made one .25 increase, which is the smallest increment i could go, so i can get so high but i am gonna wait for aftermarket cooling

i was just so depressed though because i was stuck at 2.1 and i was like wtf and so sad, and then i found that my RAM was the problem and i found this formula of doing the OC, and then i just rode the flow of what to do and just kept going and going. i can reach 3 easily with aftermarket cooling, but 2.5 is great for now

Yea, a Windsor core might be able to hit 3ghz. As long as the cpu isnt running hot or the vcore isnt too high then running it at 3ghz wouldnt be a problem. When i upgrade my psu ill pry run mine at around 2.6-2.8ghz depending on temps and stability.

I used to run it at 2.6ghz but my psu crapped out and now it wont OC at all, not even 10mhz.
