ive got a chorus box ( its the company that provide my internet ) and it uses a co-axial cable so i cant replace it :(

so what ive done is connected it to my netgear rangemax router. works perfectly.
but the netgear router is too awkward for portforwarding and doesnt work right. when i connect the chorus box directly to my pc with ethernet i get much faster speeds on p2p and gaming.

so i want to connect the chorus box to the pc.
then install a wireless card in the pc.
enable internet sharing and use the wireless card to broadcast my own wireless home network to my 2 laptop's and media centre pc.

any problems with it? what could go wrong?
all pc's are on vista ultimate.

would the laptop's and media centre have slow connections surfing the net going through the pc?
and would i need a firewall on every computer? or can i just set one up on the pc thats connected directly to the internet?
 
Ok let see. When you say "broadcast your own wireless signal" what your going to have to do is setup an ad-hoc network on your pc. You can then set up ICS as you said, connect to your ad-hoc from your laptop. However trying to connect multiple computers to your ad-hoc may cause you problems, especially performance problems if their connected at the same time.

Also, come to think of it, it may not work very well! because your network card on your PC is going to need to use an external ip, unless you want to setup routing paths and turn your pc into a router so to speak.

Overall its gonna be tricky to get it working so the ports eventually get forwarded to your laptop, in my opinion unless you really know what your doing youd be better off getting a new router.

why is your current range max awkward? is it because you cant forward a range? and only singles?
 
no i can forward ranges and singles no problem.
for some reason internet activity though the router is dire slow.

when connected to the chorus box directly, its wicked 6mb fast.
