This is probably a stupid noob question, but, ive just done a reformat of my hdd and i have been trying to set google as my home page. i went to google.com and went into internet options and did 'select current' then 'apply'. this worked for me before but now everytime i open IE the home page is the default isp home page. is there a setting or something that i have to un/check to be able to change the homepage??????

Try typing in the url for google.com rather than clicking 'select current'. Also, what isp do you use? I think certain isp's force you to set there site as your homepage for some reason.

i tried typing it in but it didnt work. i was set my home page to google before i reformatted my hdd and it was all cool. i formatted on the weekend and now i reckon ive missed a setting somewhere or changed something that is stopping me from changing it. my isp is 'kern'. its a south australian adsl+2 company. i havent changed isp so that shouldnt effect me changing my home page. like i said, i could change it before.

I think you can change it in the REGIDIT.
First, make sure your Internet default address is not grayed out. Press Winkey&R, then type regedit, click OK. And click as the following steps:HKEY_LOCAL_USER->Software->Microsoft->Internet Explorer-
>Main, find Default_Page_URL, right click it and change the url you want. Then press F5 to refresh.
It will work.

thanks doralee. i went into regedit and followed the path (HKEY current user, as there is no local user) i changed the address to google then tried opening IE but it still went to the isp homepage. i went back into regedit and scrolled down and there is an entry for "start page" which is set at the isp homepage so i tried to change that to google but it says "cannot edit start page: error writing the values new contents".
I guess that probably means that i cant change the homepage anymore? oh well, unless you know any other tricks, then ill just put up with it. Cheers for the help
