Homebuild is too loud. Alternative cooling options?

Anyone have an opinion on which would be better between a new BFG or recertified OCZ?
The OCZ has higher wattage, better quality components from the getgo, better effeciency, etc. Also, BFG support isnt that great in my opinion, while ocz has some of the best support out there when it comes to power supplies.

Excellent, thats the kind of feedback I was looking for. Thank you very much, I will be going with the OCZ!
IIRC there is one member of this forum who actually had to rma twice, started with a 600W, got upgraded to a 700W, and then to a 700W modular or something like that. Personally i had to help a friend rma a 550W fatal1ty with them and ended up receiving a 700W unit back. Ive been really impressed with their service.

OCZ 700w 1 year warranty
vs
BFG 550w 3 year that turns into a 5 year when you register with BFG

it's a sweet deal on the 700w though..

Another issue to consider is what you plan on running in the future, that 550W should take care of you easily for now, but say in the future you wish to run crossfire or sli video cards, etc. If you are thinking by the time you wanta more powerful setup you will be building another rig or purchasing another power source, by all means go for the unit that provides long term support for the cost.

Well dangit, I was all decided until you brought up the RMA issues that other person had. Yes that is great support, but if after a year it goes out, I am hosed and it sounds like they have a tendency to go out. The other issue is that if he had that many RMA's they obviously went out on him several times which could put the system in jeopardy. Now I am not sure what to do. I am leaning back toward the BFG now for the 5 yr warranty. Can anyone tell me about the noise levels on either PSU?

The BFG looks like it is made by BK I am assuming that is BK Precision which makes a ton of lab type power supplies.. Bomberboysk has done more research on psu's than I so I'd go with his recommendation.. what do you think about BK Bomberboy..?? The BFG has a very quiet PWM 140mm fan...

only one time was a failure I think, other time was coil whine I think.

Did both of these happen within the first year? And what exactly does "recertified" mean? Is that the same as refurbished, or does it typically mean that someone sent it back because they didnt like it so they just retested it? Or something else?

I would recommend replacing all you fans with "Noctua" fans as well as replacing the CPU cooler with a noctua one. Noctua manufactor the quietest fans about. Bit pricey, but then quality and performance come with a price tag. Don't know a thing about retailers in the US, but in the UK www.scan.co.uk is your best bet. Here is noctua's website for you to have a look at: http://noctua.at/main.php?show=start

Hope that helps =]

Tested/Repaired.
I have just been reading the reviews on Newegg and now I am even more confused. The OCZ is not being received well at all ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16817341034 ) While the BFG has 5 eggs?
Honestly, newegg reviews arent worth a grain of salt. You can see rosewill units with 5 star averages that are total crap, and motherboards with 3 stars that are excellent just people dont know how to use them.
