Hooking up fans to motherboard

Hi, I have a question about my ASUS P7P55 WS Supercomputer Motherboard. I'm looking to buy a case (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...id=ITD&recordsPerPage=5&body=MAIN#ReviewStart) and it has 4 fans on it. And my motherboard has 3 chassis fan connections. I realize that there is another connection that is not being used, which is PWR_FAN, which is for the Power Supply. Could I plug in one of my fans into this connection? Would it be the same if I plugged it into the CHS_FAN connection?

don't use a splitter, makes it so easy and more likely to put too much current through the board which can damage it

I agree.

It's not really worth the risk of potentially burning out a fan header when you could just use a molex connector or whatever anyway.

this.

If you want to use the header so you can control the speed of the fans with software, but don't have eenough fan headers, invest in a fan controller instead.

It may cost a bit more, however rather that than have to fork out on a new motherboard when the other has been fried because you put too much current through it

Never really considered that it might be too much for the MB as I've done it with numerous boards over the years without problem. I guess I assumed a manufacturer would not spec a circuit at a level that was "just enough" for the job. I've posted the question to ASUS technical support and will post their recommendations when I receive them.

hey thanks for the help guys, i have gone with a different case and also a different way of hooking up my fans. went with the NZXT Tempest EVO case (which has 6 fans). hooked up 3 of my fans to the motherboard, then bought a NZXT Sentry 2 fan controller and hooked up the rest of my fans through there. the case is awesome and fans are working great :)
