hooking up hard drives to RAID controller

I'm adding a RAID drive to my computer. I've installed the controller card which has 2 SATA connections. Do I leave my original HD connected to the mobo and connect the RAID1 drive to the controller card or do I connect both hard drives directly to the controller card? THanks

What are you trying to do? If you want to set up a RAID array, then both drives must be attached to the RAID controller. If you're just adding another hard drive then it shouldn't matter.

It's going to be a RAID1 array.

I also don't have a floppy drive on this computer. I haven't tried to yet, but I believe when installing windows it asks you if you want to install RAID components and it has to be from a floppy. Am I gonna have to scavenge a floppy drive just for this? Thanks for the help

For RAID1 you won't have to reinstall Windows since the extra drive is simply a mirror copy. In this case you should enter the RAID BIOS (CTL+H when prompted at bootup). Create an array with your two drives choosing "create and duplicate"; DO NOT choose "create only" or you will lose all data. I would recommend backing up all important data before attempting this and maybe doing a little research so you're comfortable that you know what you're doing. I believe there is a GUI that allows you to do this within Windows but I've never used that.
