I have a evga superclocked 8800gts 640mb running at 635/930

I only get around 70-110 fps in CSS. some other people get more using a radeon x1600 which is weird.

my system is

2.8ghz pentiumd 915
oc'ed 8800gts
2gb gskill ddr2 800

If i get a q6600 would it be noticeably better

It would be, the Pentium D as has been said is a huge bottleneck, also, what size is your monitor? If it's a high-res monitor then it'll require more power to get god FPS figures.

The people with the x1600 dont have their settings on high/max, thats why. The best way to compare is to max out the settings using the same resolution, and run the video stress test.

Because saying "I get 150FPS in CSS", doesnt mean anything, since on my system sometimes in maps I get around 250FPS, while in certain areas of others I get 50.

no one answered my question yet. is the q6600 better for gaming or the e6850

Which one would lead me to not upgrading in 2 years at least then. Im assuming quad
The E6850 would be better now because of it's higher clock speeds, but I'm going to say that within the next 6 months, most if not all processors will be able to take advantage of quad-core processors, so then the Q6600 would perform better, not to mention it will be better at multi-tasking.

Until I got a deal on the e6600, I was running a p4 2.8 with a 8800gts.. and lets just say even before I got the video card and I was running a geforce 6600td, my processor was still a bottle neck. So my 8800gts fps was exactly the same as my geforce 6600 fps until I got the e6600.

What?! Youre not satisfied?! Your monitor has a refresh rate of 60htz. You cant even physically see those extra 10-40 fps.
