I have a little website that I started and is being hosted by Yahoo, well its $12 a month - a little expensive, could I install Linux on my old Pentium 3 and use it as a server for hosting my website? I have 512kbps I only have documents and images (no videos) will it be fast enough?

How do I host a website, do I need a special program? What is it called?

Thanks

I am also intreseted in this I have a spare computer that only runs Seti@Home for me and my friends and family play games on it to link up with my mian comp. Is there anyway I can run a server off of it for a web site or even a game server? I have Windows XP.

I use LiteServe, i dont know if its compatible with Linux though. It allows you to create an HTTP/FTP server at home for free.

Most Linux distro's have Apache as a package which you can select to install, otherwise download it.

If you're planning on alot of hits, or selling products, etc. Make sure your ISP is reliable, and your connection never goes out. Down time can give your site a bad rep, lose customers, etc.
